Queens Bay domes / Kootenay Lakeview Village is a project to create a small community within a unique mix of radical artistic architecture.
The Dome is a two story, open-plan layout. It was designed for a couple, but the garage has been converted to a self-contained suit and can be used as a living extension to the main house. Both garage and dome are electrically heated and both also have wood stoves. The dome has a hot tub on the front porch. It is adjacent to the Kootenay Lakeview Lodge and the Balfour golf course, a Les Furber designed championship 18 hole course, and is a 10 minute walk from the Balfour ferry landing and bus stop to Nelson. All infrastructure and services are now in-place to support more cottages, should the property be sold as one. If sold individually then there is space of the new lot, dedicated to the dome, to build a workshop or another bunkhouse.
It's cozy and easy to heat in
winter, when conditions on the golf course are often good for Nordic skiing, and the property is contract-plowed. There is level access from the
quiet, but fully plowed and gritted government road. There is a good bakery and
a superette at the nearby ferry landing and the bus puts one in Nelson from
there in just 30 minutes. Ainsworth hot springs are just a 10 minute drive away.
The lovely hot tub allows one to sit outside, to drink in the sylvan night under
the sparkling stars, even in the coldest weather.
